Translucent Panels

One of the unique design features of The Sheds is the translucent panel on the Charlotte facing facade of the buildings.  This material allows a nice filtered light in during the day and will produce a lantern like glow on the outside at night.  Installation of the panels has begun.

ForceX coming to The Sheds

We are thrilled to announce ForceX is leasing the balance of the space at the Sheds.  We look forward to seeing you all occupy this very unique space in Nashville.

Site Work

Most of the underground work is complete (water, sewer, storm water) and we can start getting the parking lot in shape.

View from the Top

This is the view from the 2nd floor of the middle building.  Somewhat obstructed as guys were welding near by and I could not get closer, but a general idea of what will be a good view of the Nashville skyline.

Connector Bridge

The Sheds have a connector bridge that joins the 2nd floors of the two buildings.  These photos show the steel being erected for this connector.

Concrete permieter foundations

The weather is finally cooperating enough to pour concrete.  Building C perimeter is poured in preparation to start wall framing.

Site Infrastructure

We are installing all of the storm water, sewer and water infrastructure now.  These are deep connections!

Spring finally arrived

I have a back log of post to catch up on this project.  Fortunately, the weather is much better and we can start making good progress on construction.  The last post showed the steel that is being installed for the new second floor, here is a time lapse video capturing the process.

Adding a 2nd Floor

The steel that is creating the new second floor in Shed, building A, began to be installed.  The first new foundations are going in as well.  Not the most immediately gratifying, but it is good progress and preparing the way for the new exterior skin.

Uncovering and Courtyards

Most of the old metal skin is off of the structure and the definition of the structure that will remain is taking shape.  These pictures show rows of exposed trusses that will remain in the area that will become courtyards.

Stone Production

While the old TDOT building is not standing on the site anymore, it is being recycled.  The remaining concrete from the building is being crushed into a size that will serve as engineered fill.  We will be using this "stone" on site throughout the project to fill the old building pad, as stone base for concrete, and under the new parking areas as base stone.  We "produced" about 5,000 cubic yards and anticipate using most all of it on site.  This was a good sustainability win and cost savings!  See video of the crushing operation.

Demo Work Progressing

We are continuing to pull back the old skin of the Sheds and preparing for foundation work to support the new second floor and walls.  Structural reinforcement is being added and concrete demolition is continuing.  It is neat to see the building skin removed to expose what is a very unique and interesting structure.

Demo of building at 22nd and Charlotte

The corner building demolition is progressing and the structure is down.  Work is still on-going to sort the debris and clear the site.  The video is a 39 second time lapse photo movie of the process.

TDOT Building

The demo of the old TDOT building is on its last section.  The demo crew has worked from the back to front.  I suspect many people not aware of the work, will be suddenly surprised to see the building missing from Charlotte.

Sheds Interior Demo

The demo work on the interior of The Sheds is complete and we are currently sandblasting the interior before we begin removing the exterior skin.  It was great to see the buildings back to the shell and to get a better idea of the vast, bright open areas.
